FOREX MARKET
On Friday, the euro couldn't break the 1.2200 resistance level, as the greenback was sustained by the confusing
data on the US economy. The Unemployment rate was worse than expected, while Payrolls news was better than
expected. On Monday, the markets were quiet as Japan was closed for a holiday, so we don't expect for the
EUR/USD to outpace the 1.2180 resistance level. The pair may remain supported above 1.2100, as dealers look
at the potential for the rally to extend toward 1.2500 in the coming weeks if the market begins to focus on the
weakening US economy.
Last week, the euro gradually appreciated on the Romanian forex market due to increasing buying orders coming
from clients and also sustained by NBR. On October 7th, the EUR/RON climbed until 3.6090, the most, however
there is still room for further appreciation. Today, the pair was quoted at 3.6050 at the opening hour and then it
was quickly propelled to 3.6240. However, as the euro couldn t find necessary support in the market, the
exchange rate fell to 3.5950.
MONEY MARKET
Lately, the domestic money market was characterized by stability, as the interest rates for the deposits remained
unchanged. The yields for the overnight RON deposits stood at 0.5-1.5%, being well bellow the interest rates for
deposits in euros or in dollars.
