FOREX MARKET
On Wednesday, the appreciation of the dollar continued as far as the exchange rate hit the 1.1870 level, and it
failed to break it. On looking back to this years forex trade, we could assume that there are important EUR
buying orders in the market for the 1.1870-1.1880 levels, so every time this level is approached, a correction is
made. Another reason for this sudden turnover could be the fact that the players in the international market
might focus on the US twin deficits (budget and trade) and got over the interest rates obsession. We settled the
support level at 1.2030 for today.
On October 19th, the RON slightly appreciated vs. the European currency, perhaps due to the fact that lately
the euro was overbought. The EUR/RON stabilized around 3.5970-3.5980 levels most of the trade, however in
the after noon the euro moved higher until 3.6050, the most. On Thursday, the trade opened at 3.5970 and
gradually the pair rose to near 3.6050 and it stood there until noon. On the coming days, we expect that the
euro will boost against the RON until 3.6200.
MONEY MARKET
The yields for the overnight deposits rose slightly to 1-2% on the local inter-bank money market. The National
Bank did not organize any depo auction this week, however we could notice a slight improvement in the RON
surplus situation.
