FOREX MARKET
On November 29th, there was released the US Consumer Confidence for November which was out at 98.9
vs. 90.2 expected and 85.0 in October. It offered a short term support for the USD, as the EUR/USD dropped
to 1.1736, however later the exchange rate moved a bit higher. Today, it will be a rather busy day, as there
will be released the German Retail Sales figures, UK Consumer Confidence and also the first revision of US
Q3 GDP. However, the most important event will be the Fed Beige Book which will give as some clues
about its future monetary policy. The market seems prudent waiting for news, so by noon the EUR/USD
ranges in the 1.1770-1.1790 area.
On Tuesday, there was a calm domestic forex trade, as the EUR/RON exchange rate ranged in a limited area,
stabilizing at the 3.6500 level. However, we could notice a slight appreciation of the Ron, as the selling
orders prevailed the trade, due to the month-end payments. On Wednesday, the market opened at 3.6450, but soon the exchange rate moved upwards in the 3.6520-3.6550 area. The dealers don't expect any major changes in today's trading session.
MONEY MARKET
The overnight interest rates remained in the 5.5-7% area, same as yesterday, as the liquidity on the Romanian
money market stays low, due to latest sterilization operations performed by NBR.
