FOREX MARKET
On December 6th, the EUR/USD remained rangebound, as the exchange rate went up and downwards the
1.1760-1.1800 levels, however it couldn't erode the 1.1830 level, which proved to be a strong resistance
lately. We wait for 1.1730 and 1.1830 to fall as short term trigger levels and 1.1640 and 1.1900 as the bigger
trigger levels. We are still waiting for more clues in order to be able to forecast the evolution of the
EUR/USD in the medium run and the FOMC minutes of Fed would be a good indicative.
On Tuesday, the local forex market was characterized by the depreciation of the national currency vs. the
euro, as the selling orders coming from the commercial clients prevailed. The EUR/RON rallied from 3.6390
to 3.6580 and stabilized around the 3.6500 level for the rest of the trading session. Today, the exchange
market opened at 3.6510 level, but soon the euro slightly appreciated until 3.6600 levels. By noon, the
EUR/RON rate became steady around 3.6550-3.6570 levels. We expect no major changes this week in the
EUR/RON rate as the RON surplus remains low on the local market.
MONEY MARKET
On the Romanian inter-bank market the ON interest rates maintained at the same levels of 6-8% since the
beginning of the week. The National Bank did not performe any kind of open market operations lately.
