FOREX MARKET
The Romanian FX market had a silent weeks'end, as the EUR/RON rate opened at 3.6380 and moved briefly
up to 3.6440. Above 3.64, selling orders appeared and drove the market to opening levels, and even below, to
a minimum of 3.6340. The Euro stabilized afterwards and ended the day back at 3.6380.
Today the sellers continue to dominate the market. The EUR/RON has opened at 3.64, made a brief top at
3.6430 and then the pair has been steadily sold until 3.6300, where the market has found a support.
The international FX market witnessed significant action during Asian trading today, as tensions over the price
of oil and Iran's nuclear programme put pressure on the dollar. The EUR/USD has therefore moved more than
100 pips up in the last 10 hours, surging from 1.2160 to as much as 1.2290. We see the upside pressure
maintained, after a period of consolidation above 1.2200.
MONEY MARKET
After the Central Bank has not followed through with another depo auction, after the one organized on the
19th, O/N interest rates have slipped another 25 basis points to bids of 0.75%. The RON is offered at 2.25-
2.5%.
