FOREX MARKET
Yesterday's data revealed the US economy still growing with the durable goods orders for March much higher than
expected, but the housing activity is decreasing sharply. Despite the favorable latest figures on US economy, the
EUR/USD continued its ascension until 1.2470 level on April 26th. Today, the market will be focusing on Feds
governor Bernanke testimony to see if he confirms the expectations regarding a halt of the tightening cycle. If his
statement remains proves dovish, we might se the pair heading towards 1.2590 resistance zone.
The Romanian currency started to lose some of its recent gains made on back of the occasional hard currency inflows
around the holidays. On Wednesday, EUR/RON rallied until 3.4735 level, depreciating more than 150 pips. The pair
continued to ease today also, as some of the speculative funds are taking advantage of the low exchange rates and are
cashing in their profits. The opening bids started in the 3.4700 zone, then the quotes went slightly lower until 3.4680
level. However around noon, the euro regained strength and the exchange rate climbed until 3.4730 level. The 3.4800
resistance should hold on until the end of the week.
MONEY MARKET
The overnight interest rates maintained in the 8-9% zone, as the National Bank keeps on draining the excess liquidity
in the Romanian interbank market.
