FOREX MARKET
Bernanke's testimony proved to be dovish and signaled that Fed's key interest rate might be nearing its peak at
5%, at least for the coming months. However, Feds governor stressed that the monetary policy will strictly
depend on incoming data. Bernanke's comments put downward pressure over the dollar which reached seven-
month low vs. euro. However the pair couldnt break the 1.2590 resistance yet, climbing as high as 1.2567
level on Friday.
The Romanian currency depreciated slightly lately, after reaching 8-month height on April 25th due to the
foreign remittances occasioned by Easter holiday. The single currency restrained its ranging area to 100 pips in
the past days, moving between 3.4650-3.4750 levels with no clear direction. The opening quotes stood in the
3.4720 zone and remained within the same range as lately in calm trading on Friday.
MONEY MARKET
The overnight interest rates stood in the 8.25-8.75% zone, as the commercial banks are keeping higher
amounts at NBR at the begining of the mandatory reserve period.
