FOREX MARKET
Yesterday the Leu posted its biggest daily gain versus the Euro in more than two weeks. After closing at 3.59 two
days ago, the EUR/RON ended yesterday's trading session at 3.5650, a 0.7% move. The market had opened at 3.59
and descended to a low of 3.5550 before closing at the above level. The move can be linked to expectations that the
RON will maintain its favorable yield spread versus the developed market currencies, notably the Dollar, after
foreign investors are seeing further rate increases by the US Fed as less likely.
Today the Euro has opened at RON 3.5600 and has ranged in the first trading hour between 3.5560 and 3.5650.
Current bids stand at the same 3.5600.
The Euro has capitalized yesterday on the gains from two days ago versus the Dollar. The EUR/USD has increased
further from 1.2590 to a high of 1.2654 in US trade. Since then the pair has ranged between 1.2620 and 1.2650.
Given the amplitude of the 200 pips upward move, the possibility of a retracement at least to 1.2570 has increased.
MONEY MARKET
RON O/N rates are still at a minimum level due to today being the last trading day of the current minimum reserve
period, which is ending on Sunday. Average rates stand at 0/3%, with maximum bids of 0.5%.
